The museum houses the private collection of Christodouloas Halaris, an outstanding researcher and expert on Greek music. All the presented musical instruments are faithful replicas of real instruments, made by Halaris personally, based on documents and evidence confirming their existence. Some of them were reconstructed in cooperation with Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
In the museum you will find replicas of Greek musical instruments from different periods – from prehistoric times, through ancient times, the Middle Ages, Byzantine times, and Byzantine post, up to the beginning of the 20th century.
The replicas are accompanied by graphics depicting how the instruments were used and background music, thanks to which we can learn how the music played with them sounded.
The museum is located in a building belonging to the municipality of Oia. It was opened in October 2010.
