Beaches of Santorini
Santorini is not famous for its beautiful beaches. Tourists from all over the world come here attracted by the amazing volcanic landscape and numerous interesting sights. This however does not mean that you will not find fantastic placesĀ for sunbathing and swimming here. Quite the contrary!
On Santorini you will find more than 30 beaches.Among them there are both fully developed beaches with showers, toilets, deckchairs and umbrellas and access to cafes and bars, and those completely wild, where it is difficult to get to, but characterised by peace and quiet (you need to bring your own provisions, drinks and beach accessories such as an umbrella and a blanket).

The beaches on Santorini from the side of the Kaldera (west) are not easily accessible (only a few are accessible by an asphalt road). The sun rises on them late and relatively early in the afternoon they are in the shade. Due to the characteristics of the coastline, the water quickly becomes deep. However, this is compensated by the fantastic view of the Caldera and all the islets of the Santorini archipelago.
Beaches on Santorini from the east have a relatively flat descent to the sea and are mostly covered with fine, dark, volcanic sand. The beaches at the tourist towns of Kamari and Perissa stretch for many kilometres along lively promenades filled with cafes, restaurants and shops.
On the north-eastern Santorini you will find several beaches less developed, quieter, but with equally easy access to the sea. In the south-east, several “geological gems” are worth visiting, including Red Beach, White Beach and Vlychada Beach with its amazing volcanic sand formations.

Kokkini Paralia, or Red Beach in Santorini, owes its name to the original colors of the steep cliffs created from the volcanic lava. Both the road and the beach itself are covered with a characteristic reddish-black gravel. The coast on all sides is surrounded by rocks, which guarantee unforgettable views of the bay.
The White Beach in Santorini, called by the locals Lefki Ammos (white sand) or Lefki Paralia (white beach), is a small beach located under high cliffs made of white rocks. It is a true paradise for lovers of sunbathing.
Kamari is one of the most popular places on Santorini. It is located on the southeast coast of the island. The long, black, volcanic beach is definitely the main attraction here, perfect for walks along the seashore. The Kamari Beach in Santorini is made of tiny dark pebbles and is about two kilometers long.
Perissa Beach in Santorini is a long beach filled with tiny volcanic pebbles that sometimes take a sand-like form. Due to its characteristic dark shade, this litter likes to warm up quickly. Especially in the middle of summer, you will need flip-flops or water shoes to move around which laterĀ can be used in the sea.
Perivolos is located on the south-eastern coast of Santorini and is situated between two other well-known beaches Perissa Beach and Agios Georgis. This area is very popular among tourists visiting the island. None of the aforementioned beaches have clearly defined borders, you can go for a long walk along the seashore and admire beautiful views of the coast.
The beautiful, sandy Vlychada Beach on Santorini attracts more and more tourists every year. Undoubtedly, a truly lunar landscape has an impact on their interest. The surrounding rocks are famous for their non-obvious shapes.
Monolithos Beach can be recommended for families with children, as the water here is quite shallow. The sandy beach has a dark volcanic colour. The beach is located right next to the airport but we didnāt find the noise to be a problem, especially that the Santorini airport is nothing like a big city aerodrome.
On the east coast, south of Xiropigado beach, near the small port of Vourvoulou, there is a fairly popular beach, but not as crowded as some others on the island – Paralia Vourvoulos.
Caldera Beach in Santorini is a beach of unforgettable views and great depths. From here you can observe the flooded with water caldera , from which the very name of the beach came from.
Koloumbos Beach (also known as Koloumpos, Colombo, Columbo, Coloumbo or Culumbus) is located on the north-eastern edge of the Santorini island, east of Cape Koloumpos (Greek ĪĪŗĻĪ± ĪĪæĻ Ī»ĪæĻĪ¼ĻĪæ).
